Rui da Conceicao Pereira, one of the most famous capoeiristas of Senzala school, was born on October 26, 1975 in Rio de Janeiro.
He started playing capoeira when he was five. For the first three years he trained with mestre Brinco, who taught children capoeira angola.
Later on Rui moved to Senzala school of mestre Beto. At first it was difficult to adjust to the new, fundamentally different style of the game, but later it turned out that the experience of capoeira angola had had a very positive effect on his technique, adding plastic and diversity into the movements.
At the age of 17 Rui started teaching capoeira to the poor within a charitable social program.
In 2001 at the age of 26 he received a brown cord (corda marrom), and in 2009 at age of 34 - a red cord (corda vermelha). Thus Rui became the youngest holder of contra-mestre (brown cord) and mestre (red cord) titles in the history of Senzala school.
Since 1997 mestre Rui lives and teaches capoeira in Copenhagen (Denmark).
At present more than 500 people in Brazil, Denmark and Ukraine train under his leadership. Mestre Rui also creates joint projects with a break-dance group Out of Control and participates in theater productions of the Danish theater "11komma7".
